Rewilding grief
A beautiful, natural space to remember our loved ones.
Meet Our Team
Mel & Mike met in 2022 and realised they had been working on the same idea from different angles. They decided to collaborate in 2023 to bring this dream into reality.
Rev. Melanie O'Driscoll
Mel was ordained as an interfaith minister in 2022 with the OneSpirit Interfaith foundation. With a background in ecology and environmental education she is passionate about facilitating ecologically regenerative burials in Cork for people of all faith paths and none. Her practise as a minister is rooted in place based healing and earth-based ceremony work. She believe that as we heal the earth heals.
Keenly aware of the climate and biodiversity crisis, she asked the question "how can I be a good ancestor for future generations?" A natural burial ground in Cork City was the answer that came.
Mike Clancy
Mike's background is primarily in leading development teams in the software industry. He has also been involved in the start-up community where they have been very focused on defining and delivering value to our customers.
"I've come to the natural burial ground, not so much from a business sense but from a community one. None of the existing options in this area appeal to me for when my time comes, and the idea of our last act in this world to be helping build a beautiful natural park for Cork that will live on long after we've passed very much appeals to me. Cork has been very good to my family over the years, I'd like to give something back."
What is a natural burial ground?
A non-denominational, inclusive burial ground were people of all faith paths and none can be burial in a way that allows them to return to the soil, becoming one with the earth after death. Natural burials happens between 3 and 5 feet. In this layer of soil our bodies can be supported by the biological processes to become soil. Theses burial sites avoids the use of grave liners, concrete vaults and formaldehyde, favouring the use of natural materials like wood, mycelium and wool. A key focus of a natural burial ground is to help restore the local biodiversity and conserve wildlife.
Why natural burials?
Ecological restoration - A natural burial ground is a beautiful ecological sanctuary where we can bury and remember our loved ones. The processes used to bury the deceased are gentle on the earth and promote and nurture local diversity.
Freedom to chose - Natural burial grounds allow us to choose to be buried in a way that promotes local biodiversity and wildlife. Being non-denominational and inclusive space means that everyone has the opportunity to choose the send of they desire for themselves, and their loved ones.
Rewilding grief - Grief is never easy and comes in many difference expressions. We believe that grieving in a natural space with the support of the whole ecosystem can be deeply restorative and healing. We want our community graveyard to be a beautiful, natural setting where people can feel held and loved as they grieve.
